Remembering Craig Haynie

The day after Thanksgiving, 2018,  our friend, Craig Haynie, collapsed. Three days later, he passed away; it was a sudden shocking event for which no one was prepared. As we surrounded each other in mourning and celebration of Craig’s life, we began to hear stories of our friend’s quiet generosity. In private, he had committed so many acts of kindness that we were overwhelmed, yet not surprised. Always a truly kind and giving friend, he volunteered at YES Prep events, organized clothing drives, and worked within the Lindale Park neighborhood association. The breadth of his friendship can never be diminished by the brevity of his life, and in turn we hope to give back in a way that Craig would approve. Thanks to a generous gift from his parents and ongoing support from his friends and loved ones, the Craig Haynie Scholarship Fund will continue his legacy of generosity and kindness by awarding college scholarships to four Northside seniors each year who have a proven track record of demonstrating some of Craig’s core values.

It is no surprise that life can be short, and it is imperative that each day be lived with humility, loyalty and grace.
